This 103 bedroom hotel is the flagship property of Monogram Hotels, Ireland's newest niche brand of luxury hotels. Douglas Wallace collaborated with design director, Philip Treacy, to create a five-star hotel interior unlike anything seen before in Ireland.

The Ladies Salon in strong pink is destined to become the g's signature room. With its Andy Warhol camouflage print fabric-covered chairs and black-and-white vortex hand woven carpet, the room retains a feel of 1940s and 50s glamour but with a distinctly contemporary twist.

The hotel's 70-seat restaurant continues the seashell theme, with banquettes in purple velvet designed to cocoon and envelop, and jewel coloured Andrew Martin chairs. The 103 guestrooms are havens of intimacy and sensuality. Entered from darkly seductive corridors with catwalk lighting, the rooms' clever use of mirrors encourages the play of light on luxurious linen and silks in oyster and gold, with seashell motif upholstery fabric and light-fittings. The g's 102 deluxe rooms include three individually designed suites. The quality of their design and finishes will secure the g's reputation for cutting-edge chic. The attention to detail is evident everywhere - from the use of colour and exquisite materials, to the choice of the hotel's artwork.

This approx 400sqm refurbishment and extension of the existing branch, shows a total street infill across the site. In the 1960’s, the bank was built set-back from the street building line. The 2003 extension remakes the street edge, with a glass roofed link between the new street building and the older set-back facade.

In accordance with the Local Authority’s requirements, the elevational treatment to the street is in keeping with the vernacular of the existing streetscape, with pitched roof, vertically proportioned windows, stone and render surfaces.

Tender and Working Documentation

This project involved the demolition of a 1970s swimming pool and replacement with an expanded leisure complex, consisting of 25m x 13m main pool, 10m x 6m learners pool, freeform kiddies pool, sauna, steam room and viewing gallery. Adjacent spaces include reception, administration, and vending / viewing area, group changing areas, 50-workstation gymnasium and 30-person aerobics room.

The pool hall is placed on a N-S axis with a curved timber beamed roof. The two small pools are located to the south with full height curtain walling on east, south and west sides. The position of this element is within 3m of retained mature trees, bringing the exterior inside, creating an exciting juxtaposition within a bright, child-friendly environment.
